The trekking route to the Torrecillas glacier begins in Puerto Chucao, on the south east arm of Lake Menéndez, where you will arrive after crossing the footbridge of the Arrayanes River and taking a simple walk along the banks of the Menéndez River. You sail for 40 minutes to Puerto Nuevo, where a particularly beautiful trail begins that gathers the characteristics of a demanding winter mountain trek, crossing one of the most pristine landscapes of Los Alerces National Park.
The ascent, of medium difficulty, is done in approx. 1:30 – 2:00 a.m. The first section takes place in a Valdivian forest environment, then we follow a mountain stream to its very source, the Laguna del Antiguo, located at the foot of the spectacular Torrecillas Glacier. We will observe ancient larches, tineos, cypresses, coihues, lengas, reeds, it is also often possible to meet some of the caretakers of the place, the Condors and witness spectacular icefalls.
