El Chalten Trip Overview

In the town of El Chalten, Santa Cruz, we found the Rio de Las Vueltas which originates at Lake Desert to 506 meters above the sea. Its most important tributaries are the Rio Electric, and the Rio Fitz Roy both glacial (Marconi Glacier and Glacier Torre respectively).

As glacial tributaries, it is a river that has the characteristic whitish stable water levels; or brown in case of rain or snowmelt. The water temperature is between 5 and 7 degrees.

During spring, summer and autumn (September to April) its average flow is 52.35 m³ / s, which allows to the confluence of the river Fitz Roy, navigate between slopes and enjoying the quiet landscape around us .

By the morphology of the river and the unique beauty of the place, two new products “Rafting El Chalten” and “Full Day Rafting” offer plenty of adventure and ensuring an exclusive activity (maximum 8 passengers in each raft).

Itinerary

“El Chalten Rafting Experience” takes place in the Rio de Las Vueltas, with daily
departures at 10AM and 3PM, from Mil Outdoor offices in El Chalten. There, each
passenger is provided with the appropriate equipment, and is transported to
the entrance of the river. This is where technical and safety procedures are
reviewed.
The first zone consists of 6 km of calm and curving waters with views of Fitz
Roy. An ideal area to get used to the raft and to practice rowing techniques. The
second area goes over a canyon. After the initial rapid, we will find a succession
of rapids over a 9 km stretch. Towards the end of our excursion we will run into
a 1km long area of calm water. The tour ends here, just in time for everyone to
board our vehicle and travel back to El Chaltén.

Difficulty: Easy.

Duration of the Rafting excursion: 2 hours.

Minimum of passengers to confirm departure: 2 (two).

Minimum age: 12 years
