What makes Full Day Private Walking Tour of Buenos Aires Neighborhoods a unique experience ?

In Recoleta Cemetery, one could learn much of the history of this very rich country. So many of the most influential & controversial figures of Argentine history are here. This very historical cemetery is a ‘must see’. The admission fee ($12 pp) is included in the tour price.

Here you’ll quickly see how Buenos Aires got its nickname of ‘The Paris of South America’. This neighbourhood is home to many of the city’s most luxurious palaces, homes, cafes, & high-end shopping. We’ll stroll down some of the most exclusive & beautiful streets of the city, appreciating the rich architecture, history, & charm.

360 views of historical archictectural excellence abound. Retiro train station, the British Tower, the Kavanaugh Building (the city’s first skyscraper & excellent example of ‘rationalist architecture’), the Palacios San Martin & Paz – all are within view from the Plaza named in honor of Argentina’s most celebrated hero, Jose San Martin. From here we’ll take the subway – a work of art into itself – to our next destination.

The Obelisco is the centerpoint of the 9 de Julio, the widest avenue on the planet. This also happens to be the heart of Buenos Aires’ version of ‘Times Square’. Buenos Aires is always listed within the top 10 cities worldwide for live theatre and here you will see that on full display, with the beautiful Teatro Colón, & numerous Broadway-esque theatres all around. We’ll be walking down the Diagonal Norte, in continuous view of the Obelisque, to our next destination.

Home of the ‘Pink House’ (Argentina’s version of the ‘White House’), the national Cathedral (where Pope Francis used to work!), the Cabildo (Argentina’s first government building when it was still a Spanish colony ), plus many other exquisite & historical buildings. The Plaza de Mayo is just as interesting as it is beautiful.

In the early days of Buenos Aires, San Telmo was home to the city’s wealthiest families. A series of yellow fever epidemics led to the wealthy to move to the outskirts of the city (now Recoleta & Retiro) and San Telmo began its decadent decline. Artists & the working class soon moved into the mansions, converting the neighbourhood into what it is now beloved for: a bohemian haven for antiques, tango, cafes, bars, & restaurants, as well as the famous San Telmo Street Market held every Sunday. This is a great area for shopping, snacking, watching some street tango, & soaking in the relaxed city vibe.

This is an optional stop if we have time, OR we can substitute an above stop. Home to the country’s original port, La Boca is now most known for its colorful streets full of tango, art, & fútbol (aka soccer!). La Boca’s rich history is still very much alive in the many conventillos (tenement housing for the old port’s labour force) now converted into cafes, parrillas (steakhouses), & souvenir shops. Like San Telmo, this is a wonderful area to learn about the very humble beginnings of the city, enjoy some local tastes & tango, & pick up a keepsake or 2. At the end of the tour, we’ll transport you back to your abode, where you can relive all the memories we created on this remarkable day.
