Back in the day, San Telmo was home to the city’s richest and most important families. But yellow fever epidemics forced them to move north/west to the then outskirts of the city (now Recoleta & Retiro) and San Telmo began to fall from grace. Artists & the working class soon moved into the vacated properties, converting the barrio into what it is now known for: a bohemian hive for antiques, tango, cafes, bars, & restaurants, as well as the must-visit San Telmo Street Market every Sunday.

The historical, political, cultural, religious and economic hub of Argentina. Military coups, massive protests, financial crises, independence heroes, Peron, Evita, Maradona, the Pope and more... Plaza de Mayo hides story after story and cannot be fully appreciated without a knowledgeable guide.
